Welcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our Salzburg Lakes Walking Holiday. This Walking Holiday is in the region made famous by the film the Sound of Music the fabulous scenic region of the Salzkammergut around Salzburg. Our Walking Holiday is available as a seven night self led walking tour and also a seven night group walking tour on selected departure dates.
The region around Salzburg with its many lakes and mountain scenery was made famous by the film Sound of Music . This region known as the Salzkammergut is considered one of the most beautiful treasures on earth. The uniqueness of this area has been recognized by UNESCO which has declared the region around Hallstatt as a nature and world heritage site. We will show you some beauties on this hiking tour that can be reached only on foot.

Guided tour on May 15th & 29th, June 12th & 26th , July 10th & 24th , 7th & 21st August, September 4th.
Day 1
Arrival in Wolfgangsee/Peninsula Abersee
Day 2 St. Wolfgang – The pilgrim path to St. Gilgen
First you will travel by boat to St. Wolfgang and along the higher altitude hiking path to Falkensteinwand. Enjoy the view on the lake along this mountain path. The romantic mountain path along the lake will lead you to Mozart’s town St. Gilgen. Then you can return by boat.
Walking time: 4 hours , Terrain slightly up and down 354m/354m , Distance: approx. 6.6 miles 10,5 km
Day 3 St. Wolfgang – The trail to the lake Schwarze nsee then the Canyon path to Strobl
First again by boat to St. Wolfgang and then we continue along the Sattlweg to the Schwarzensee, where the Lore’s lake hut awaits you with its titbits. We hike into the valley through a gorge and around the Bürglstein to the lake promenade in Strobl. A trip by bus to the Emperor’s town Bad Ischl follows.
Walking time: 4,5 hours , Terrain slightly up and down , Distance: approx. 9.8 miles 15,8 km , Up/Down: 395m
Day 4
A day off in Bad Ischl with the possibility of visiting the Emperor’s Villa, Café Zauner or the former Hotel Austria, where the engagement of Emperor Franz Joseph and Sisi took place.
Day 5 Bad Ischl – The salt pipeline path to Bad Goisern
Salt is and has been one of the most important raw materials in the Salzkammergut. This is the reason for today’s walk along the Ischler Promenade on the brine line into the world heritage site in Bad Goisern.
Walking time: 4 hours , Terrain up/down 260m/180m , Distance: approx. 6.6 miles 10.5 km
 Day 6 Bad Goisern – salt pipeline path to the salt mountain of Hallstatt
We continue on the brine line to the salt mountain in Hallstatt, where you can visit the famous salt mine. The path is slightly rising and offers dreamy views on the lake town Hallstatt and the Dachstein. You cross the lake by ferry back to Bad Goisern.
Walking time: 5 hours Terrain up/down 455m/90m, Distance: approx. 9 miles 14.5 km
Day 7 Bad Ischl - Elisabeth’s Wander Path to lake Nut – River path to lake St. Wolfgang
First you travel by bus to Bad Ischl before you continue along Elisabeth’s Wander Path and you will reach the romantic Nussensee and then follow the flow of the river Ischl to Strobl. Then onto the lake shore path through the Blinklingmoos will lead you back to Abersee. Enjoy once again the beautiful view on St. Wolfgang, the Schafberg and naturally the lake.
Walking time: 6 hours Terrain slightly up and down , Distance: approx. 12 miles 19,2 km , Up/Down: 210m/140m
Day 8
Departure after breakfast or stay some extra nights .
Difficulty
Walks of around 4-5 hours each day with some climbs of 300 metres , a lovely first time tour in low level mountain scenery.
Accommodation
Comfortable 3 star hotels.
Minimum number on guided walk is 4 persons.

By plane to Salzburg and then a short transfer. We can fix a private transfer from Salzburg to first hotel for £85 ( 1-4 persons ).
